Early on in the pandemic, my wife and I were discussing all the "What Ifs" that could occur.
What if...we can't travel?
What if ...the borders are closed and we can't teach as planned?
What if...this stays around for longer than anticipated?
What if...we get sick?
What if... we can't pay the bills?
What if...we get scared?
What if...the sky is falling? or...well you get the point - A LOT of questions, so much in fact that there came a day when I shared with my wife, "regardless of all the what ifs, we still need to keep going forward. We need to find a way to continue life as best as we can and maintain forward motion. We can't stop and wait for all the what ifs to maybe happen. We must find a way."
We have come back to that conversation many times over the course of the past year. It was a turning point for us. We took all the pending fear that was threatening to freeze us in our tracks and we re-directed it into something we could do.
One of the first things we did - we started walking - forward. We could keep moving - physically. Being inundated with information and media reports, stats and news, we found one thing to start or end our day - walking. Moving forward as a symbol that physically demonstrated to us that life is going to keep going. A year later, we are still walking. Many of those what ifs did happen, are happening - but life can continue. Perhaps, today you are in a similar situation - overcome with restrictions, fear of the unknown, fatigue over the past year. I encourage you to look, instead, at what you can do. What steps can you take to keep life moving, to continue in a forward motion. What HOPE can you find in the day?
I have found that my family spends more time together, I have explored activities that I wouldn't have otherwise. I have improved my ability to use technology and I appreciate the shining sun much more than ever before.
To many better days to come
